SARA

The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) allows the University of Utah to offer distance education to students without the need to obtain specific agreements from individual states. As of 2023 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have all joined SARA. California does not regulate public universities in other states and so while California is not a SARA member the University of Utah may enroll students in California. If you are a student looking to take classes online from a location other than those mentioned above please reach out to the UOnline staff or the SARA Coordinator.

Professional Licensure

For students interested in nursing, social work, clinical psychology, or other academic programs that lead to professional licensure, it is imperative that you understand the regulations and requirements for your state prior to enrolling in any academic program. The University of Utah maintains a list of programs that lead to licensure as well as determinations whether those programs meet educational requirements for licensure in each state and territory. In addition to educational determinations this list includes links to the corresponding licensing board in each state.
